So what is everyone's thoughts on the on-going MediaDefender stories?

For anyone not familiar with what's going on with it, you can get the current back story here.

I do apologize, yes that is my own blog, and I hate to self promote my own writings. I just wrote about it in my infosec blog earlier, since its a pretty big deal and many mainstreamers who use P2P or may just care about the (IMO) unethical business practices had not heard about the story or series of events since July.

Cross posted.

I downloaded a terabyte of pirated content during the last year. I usually use eMule to download music, and μTorrent to download video. However I felt no problems caused by that MediaDefender guys. So it seams it's impossible to destroy a decentralized p2p network.
And yeah, I downloaded that mail archive, and I'm seeding it for the last few days.
I'd buy a beer for the guy who stole it.

you also hit on another good point. Not only are there actions unethical, but they are futile. You can't break up a decentralized network by hitting select targets. It's like trying to put out a house fire by strategically throwing water on it one bucket at a time.

   Exactly!
For example, concider Japan. In Japan that copyright-protecting laws are enforced much harder then in the U.S.
And the only result was that Japanese guys use Winny or Share p2p networks, that guarantees anonymity just by design.
